Derek Earl Houghton Poems

Welcome my blog. The intention is to publish every piece of writing that I have churned out for the past 10 years. Some pieces have a story behind the story, some lyrical poems have become songs. We have hundreds of poems, stories, songs, lyrics, and life musings. Subscribe and every Monday receive a story to start off your week. Art is created by Amina & AI.

The definition of a fool is someone who, regardless of newly uncovered information, refuses to accept the new idea, preferring to be wrong  rather than live with the humiliation of loosing face.

He had not left the apartment for three days.

He decided to go to price Chopper to see if there where

Any good deals on fresh Salmon.

He bought three family size packages because they where

Reduced by three dollars a pound.

He complimented the cashier on the rose tattoo she had on her arm.

She was a small sweet sparrow of a woman.

She explained in detail the rose tattoo was to commemorate the passing

Of her mother in 2015 and that the colours where about her children.

She kept her mothers ashes at her home.

He shared that his own mother passed a while back and how time flies.

He also bought  six chicken legs and  a large piece of strip loin from his

Local Halal  butcher.

The butcher threw  in a package of goat for free.

The butcher almost always threw in a little gift.

The butcher asked about his heart surgery and his new e bike.

Over all it was  good to be around people and a  very good Saturday

Even if there was intermittent showers.

The grass always look greener on the other side of the fence

when

you fail to care for the grass on your side of the fence.
