Derek Earl Houghton Poems

Welcome my blog. The intention is to publish every piece of writing that I have churned out for the past 10 years. Some pieces have a story behind the story, some lyrical poems have become songs. We have hundreds of poems, stories, songs, lyrics, and life musings. Subscribe and every Monday receive a story to start off your week. Art is created by Amina & AI.

Hatred is always myopic.

Shortsightedness feeds hatred .

Hatred is a perpetually self referencing

recalcitrant mono thought looping endlessly

inside its own putrid darkness.

Hatred  lives in a room without doors or windows,

without sound or light, warmth or heartfelt laughter

Hatred is unfamiliar with intuition. Hatred is too gross

to intuit .It sees only what it can grasp and kill

Hatred experiences no tenderness.

Hatred is like a mushroom that  blooms only in the dark ,

fowl smelling, poisonous, nourished by the decay

of   buried bodies of its predecessors

It mistakes its solitude for  sanctity.

Nothing comes of hate other than more hate.

In the end it kills the souls of those who worship at its altar

and it slays their children even before they are born.

00234 Subway Jumper

Universal  brotherhood  was an idea whose time had come,

Unfortunately, It was running a  bit late.

Something to do with a jumper on the Yonge Street subway.

Never fails, right in the middle of rush hour.

What was imminently clear to you,

was to him, vague and wholly dissatisfying.

How something is viewed then, is

not so much how it truly is, but rather ,

how one elects to perceive it .
