Now If You Call Upon This Heart

Now if you call upon my heart
This one last time
If you could take this one last breath
Could you employ it in the role
Of love
For her
Maybe it is time now
Maybe it is some divine vow
One fulfills
Off handed,
Like housekeeping
The pesky business of showing
You care
When it is not in vogue
Or at least shows that they do.
For fear of some hollow
Retribution
The ever present inconsequential whirligig
Of social opprobrium.
Climb down if you dare
The coast is not clear
There is risk.
Yet I know you have it in you
To bleed when called upon.
The assignment all beautiful people
Eventually fulfill.
It is as it ever was
you and I connected
In ways intimate and new
And what you do
Becomes what I do
And so it is for this odd moment
